Loud and Clear: Women Dominating the Pop Music Scene
The music scene is buzzing right now, and you don’t have to be a genius to see that it’s all thanks to women. Is this the golden era for powerful pop queens? We think so.
The idea for this issue sparked when we noticed Miley Cyrus’s interview with W Magazine, which not only features an intriguing conversation but also boasts a fantastic photo shoot.
They say that the creative adult is the child who survived.
True to form, Miley Cyrus stormed this year’s Grammys like a wrecking ball. With hair teased to the cosmos, she hit the red carpet in a daring Maison Margiela Artisanal dress made of 14,000 gold safety pins. She performed “Flowers” in shimmering vintage Bob Mackie, tossing quips with ’70s Cher-like flair. After slipping into a sequined Gucci number by Sabato De Sarno, she accepted Record of the Year with a playful nod to her first Grammy win, joking about going commando on music’s biggest night.
“Sometimes I forget to talk about things that are a normal part of my day-to-day, like texting with Beyoncé.”
– Miley Cyrus
Recently, we also celebrated massive album drops from Ariana Grande and Dua Lipa. Ariana opened up beautifully to one of our favorite music journalists, Zane Lowe, while Dua Lipa took the internet by storm with the announcement of “Radical Optimism”. Seriously, it’s hard to scroll through X these days without seeing posts worshipping Dua Lipa like a goddess.
But that’s not all! Everyone was buzzing about Billie Eilish’s guest appearance with Lana Del Rey at Coachella, and we just got her new album “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” (Spotify & Apple Music). Today also marks the release of “I Hear You” (Spotify & Apple Music) by one of the world’s most viral DJs, Peggy Gou, who broke into the mainstream with “(It Goes Like) Nanana”, becoming a major name at the intersection of electronic music and pop.
Yes, women in the music world currently have immense power and are commanding the world’s attention.
