✻ Who doesn't love good coffee? As for us, we don't know anyone like that, and we consume liters of it ourselves. Just like in any other field, in the world of coffee, there is no shortage of gadgets that make our hearts race and leave us wondering how to conjure up a mountain of money. In the world of watches, people lean towards Patek Philippe; in the automotive world, we think of Ferrari Tailor Made models. And when it comes to coffee, or more precisely, espresso machines? There can only be one answer: La Marzocco. Today, we delve into the history of this incredible manufacturer, which still handcrafts its espresso machines in the beautiful city of Florence. ✻ Do you remember Pinball? Dive into the fascinating short documentary film from the 80s, featuring Suzanne Ciani – a pioneer of electronic music, as she creates the soundtrack for the classic pinball machine game Xenon.
What makes this documentary exceptional is that Suzanne Ciani used samples of her own voice to create the soundtrack. This was the first time in history that a female voice was used in a pinball game as well. This innovative approach gives the entire project a unique and personal touch. The film is only a few minutes long, which definitely leaves us wanting more. Nevertheless, it is incredibly fascinating and demonstrates how seemingly simple tools, such as a sampler, can become powerful mediums for artistic expression.
Suzanne Ciani's story is inspiring for another reason as well. As a woman in the male-dominated world of electronic music, she had to break through barriers and stereotypes. Her innovative approach and determination are the proof that passion and creativity can lead to groundbreaking achievements, regardless of circumstances. It’s worth noting that she was also the first solo female composer of a soundtrack to a Hollywood film. And she’s also the one who invented the Coca-Cola’s infamous “pop and pour” sound effect! For more, check out The Guardian’s interview, which introduced Suzanne Ciani as “America's first female synth hero”.

“Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride.”
